Leisure solution contest to transform old London Shoreditch station
POSTED 29 Apr 2015 . BY Kate Corney

London’s old Shoreditch Overground train station is the site of choice for a new leisure building as part of an architecture contest.

Overseeing body M-Arch says the leisure design can be any type of commercial and flexible space, from a small set of units for single merchants to a big, open space for workshops. The aim is to provide a collective space for growth of the local community.

Entrants can use the feel of the area in their building design, drawing on the Shoreditch trendsetting vibe mixed with the historic and culturally vibrant Brick Lane area.

Applicants can also provide creative responses to the social gap affecting London, drawing on the surrounding areas and the city needs to suggest their solution. The design must be feasible with the possibility of being reused elsewhere in London.

Entrants can register on May 4, and submit their solutions by May 11. First prize is €1,750, second 2nd prize is €450 and third prize is €300. There will also be 10 honourable mentions.

All the awarded proposals will be published on architectural magazines and websites and will be hosted in the next international exhibition in London.

All the finalist proposals will be published on www.m-arch.co.uk
