DLL agrees BUPA deal
POSTED 26 Apr 2007 . BY Tom Walker
David Lloyd Leisure has teamed up with BUPA to create a new brand of centre offering medical and fitness expertise under one roof.

Aimed at people recovering from injuries or chronic illness, those on rehabilitation programmes following surgery, people with general lifestyle issues and members of the mature market who have become less active, the first Core Exercise Clinic recently opened in Enfield, north London.

The centre is said to offer a higher level of medical care and fitness support than traditional health clubs with staff trained in physiotherapy, nursing, exercise physiology, sports science, rehabilitation, nutrition and fitness.

“I feel enormously relieved that finally the highest quality guidance, support and exercise are being brought together and used on a greater scale for preventative medicine,” says clinic manager, Steve Cooper.

New clients are given an initial BUPA Core Assessment, which reviews their health, fitness and lifestyle, before receiving a tailored programme. As well as regular advice and support, members also have access to BUPA’s 24-hour Health information line.

The centre has been designed to be distinctly un-intimidating with a lack of mirrors, soft music and lighting that emulates natural daylight. A hexagonal fish tank in the form of a huge glass pillar sits in the centre of the gym to create a tranquil environment. The open plan area has six zones: cardio area, strength area, group exercise area, Power-Plate area, balance area and a treatment room where blood, cholesterol, glucose, lung efficiency or body composition tests are conducted.

Members can choose from three programmes: Maximise your Life, an ongoing programme for senior members, Healthy Living, a six-month programme offering motivational support for those trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and Recovering Health, a one-month programme offering ongoing medical treatments and guidance for those recovering from surgery.
