POSTED 12 Sep 2007 . BY Tom Walker
The Yorkshire Waterways Museum in Goole and the Castle Howard Estate in York were among this year’s winners of Yorkshire Tourist Board’s (YTB) White Rose Awards for Tourism.

The awards, now in their 18th year, recognise the best of the region’s tourism businesses and companies were honoured in 17 categories with Devonshire Arms Country House Hotel in Bolton Abbey taking home the hotel of the year award, while the National Coal Mining Museum in Wakefield was awarded the visitor attraction of the year title.

The Castle Howard Estate took the best tourism experience of the year award from a shortlist that included Cannon Hall Farm in Barnsley and Bradford International Markets festival.

The General Tarleton Inn in Ferrensby beat the beech Farm Cottages in Wrelton for the Yorkshire pub of the year title.

Clow Beck House in Crofton on Tees won the guest accommodation of the year award while Yorkshire Waterways Museum was named as the small visitor attraction of the year in the under 50,000 visitors category.

Overall, 94 finalists were in competition for the 17 coveted awards, presented by David Andrews, chief executive of YTB.

Winners in 14 of the seventeen categories now go forward to represent Yorkshire in the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence organised by VisitBritain.
