ECB upgrades reply screens to improve fan engagement
POSTED 24 Dec 2015 . BY Matthew Campelli
The Kia Oval is one of the four UK cricket grounds will a permanently installed Mediatec screen
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has inked a four-year deal with LED screen provider Mediatec to improve replay screens at grounds across the country.

Mediatec will supply and install temporary environmentally friendly screens in a bid to improve the match-day experience at all televised matches.

The screens will be used to stream match action using outside broadcast technology, with Mediatec editing footage shot by television broadcasters such as Sky, while offering interactive options to increase fan engagement during the match.

The deal, which runs from 2016 to 2019, covers all ECB’s Major Matches, as well as the three International Cricket Council (ICC) global events to be staged in the country: the Women’s World Cup in 2017, the ICC Champions Trophy in 2017, and the Cricket World Cup in 2019.

Major ECB matches in 2016 include England’s Test series and One Day International series versus Sri Lanka between May and July, followed by a similar sequence of fixtures against Pakistan between July and September.

Mediatec has already installed permanent screens at four grounds: the Kia Oval, Cardiff’s SWALEC Stadium, the Ageas Bowl in Southampton and the County Cricket Ground in Essex. Other grounds hosting televised matches will use temporary screens for the replays and highlights.

As part of the deal, the 18 First Class counties and Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) will gain access to packaged highlights to share with their fans at the end of each televised match, with fans benefitting from high definition upgrades made by Mediatec’s on-site facilities.

“Putting fans at the heart of the game is one of the ECB’s main priorities,” said ECB director of events, Steve Elworthy. “Mediatec has a proven track record in this area and their knowledge and expertise will undoubtedly enhance cricket fans’ match-day experience inside our venues.”

Mediatec chief executive, Kenneth Paterson, added: “Our continued investment in the very latest technologies and equipment will allow the ECB to develop and enhance the spectator experience over the coming season.”
