Eco luxe Coworth Park spa is unveiled
POSTED 22 Sep 2010 . BY Sarah Todd
Luxury hotel operator Dorchester Collection is set to open a new country house hotel and eco-luxury spa, Coworth Park near Ascot, UK, this month on 27 September.

Set in 240 acres of Berkshire parkland, the 70-bedroom Coworth Park hotel is a restored Georgian Manor House and has a host of eco-friendly operating procedures.

These include a bio mass boiler within an underground energy centre which is fuelled by burning willow grown on the estate. A cooling system for the hotel is also provided via a ground source water circulation system of underground pipes – known as 'slinkys' – that are located within the hotel grounds.

Designed by Fox Linton Associates, guests are intended to feel as though they are staying in a private English country estate with a backdrop of sunken gardens, a lime grove, polo fields and surrounding meadows.

The Spa at Coworth Park will offer treatments by Dr Alkaitis. Rich in anti-oxidants and healing enzymes, Dr Alkaitis products are also 100 per cent organic and paraben-free. In addition, Carol Joy London skin and hair care products will be offered as well as Kerstin Florian and Aromatherapy Associates.

Built over two floors, the spa will be partly submerged into the landscape. The upper floor will have eight treatment rooms (including two doubles), a manicure/pedicure salon and relaxation rooms.

The lower ground level is dominated by the indoor pool and also offers a large health and fitness suite – equipped by Technogym – and a sun terrace.

The spa's roof will be adorned with a garden of thyme, lavender, chamomile and other fragrant herbs.

The Dorchester Collection, launched in 2006, is the successor to the Dorchester Group, originally established in 1996 to manage a portfolio of some of the world's foremost luxury hotels in Europe and the US.

As part of the group's new strategy, chief executive, Christopher Cowdray has set out the company's goal to have between 15-20 hotels by 2015. Details: dorchestercollection.com
