Naupaka Spa & Wellness Centre opens at Four Seasons Oahu
POSTED 20 Jul 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
Set across five floors, Naupaka features fourteen indoor treatment rooms
The Naupaka Spa & Wellness Centre has opened at the newly remodelled Four Seasons Resort Oahu at Ko Olina, combining innovative health and wellness practices with traditional Hawaiian healing.

Set across five floors, Naupaka features fourteen indoor treatment rooms, indoor hot and cold plunge pools, a steamroom, sauna, needle shower, two Himalayan salt chambers, relaxation areas and change rooms, and the Resort’s fifth pool – a private sanctuary featuring an outdoor lap pool and whirlpool surrounded by foliage, overlooking the hotel’s porte-cochère.

A barbershop will soon open and serve local craft beer and the spa also includes a feng shui-inspired Billy Yamaguchi Salon. Outdoor treatments are offered in tranquil muliwai massage hales overlooking the Pacific and the resort’s gardens.

Naupaka aims to perpetuate the mana (spiritual energy) of Ko Olina (meaning “Place of Joy”) and adjacent Lanikuhonua (“Where Heaven Meets the Earth”), which was historically a retreat for Hawaiian royalty.

Native plants and salts, indigenous art and hand-carved design animate the spa’s interior spaces, including natural wood elements. Indoor and outdoor areas intermingle, inviting a connection to nature. The name Naupaka, inspired by the small white half-flower common to Oahu, symbolises the quest for wholeness.

In Hawaiian culture, massage is about healing and sharing the gift of aloha with family and friends. At Naupaka, massage treatments are constructed around this belief, including the Hau?oli Massage (Happy and Joyful), Papa Lani Massage (Heaven and the Spiritual Powers) and Ikaika Massage (Strong and Powerful).

Naupaka’s extensive spa menu showcases luxurious treatments such as a Rose Quartz Healing Facial, an `Aina Kai Marine Body Wrap infused with sea plants, and the ultimate in pampering – the Ho`okahi Ritual. Rare ingredients such as ‘alaea – a Hawaiian red volcanic clay – and native Hawaiian mamaki are used to eliminate toxins and lower blood pressure.

Skincare brand Sodashi is the primary product line for facials at Naupaka, including the Samadara Ultimate Age-Defying Facial, which uses techniques and formulations rooted in ayurvedic healing traditions and natural healing energies. Special massages, facials, manicures and pedicures for keiki (children) focus on the importance of receiving and sharing knowledge from older generations. Treatments include the Hawaiian Hula Princess makeover, for girls under 11.

Ola Tropical Apothecary products, available for sale at Naupaka, are handmade in Hawaii and feature locally-grown products including coconut and lilikoi.

Jaana Roth has been named spa director at Naupaka Spa & Wellness Centre. Roth has spent 15 years working in health and wellness, while studying ancient practices and traditions from the Middle East to Polynesia. She comes to Naupaka Spa from Four Seasons Resorts Lanai.

"Energy unleashed" is the theme for international celebrity stylist Billy Yamaguchi’s new salon at Naupaka. Celebrated for introducing feng shui to hair styling, Yamaguchi’s signature consultations focus on the five elements – metal, earth, fire, water and wood – drawing on an individual’s core energy to inspire colours and styles that naturally complement features and reflect inner beauty.

The sixth floor of Naupaka features a 10,000sq ft (930sq m) health club with personal trainers, cardio and weight training equipment.

Also on the sixth floor is Hawaii’s first Jim Courier Tennis Centre, a five-court facility managed by the former world number one professional tennis player. Private lessons, group lessons, video stroke analysis, court rentals and an ball machine are available.
