Girona's Alàbriga hotel launches luxury spa to strengthen wellness offer
POSTED 14 Jun 2017 . BY Tom Walker
The spa was designed by Inma Moreno, Alàbriga’s director of wellbeing spa (pictured), in partnership with architect Aryanour Djalali
Alàbriga Hotel in Girona, Spain, has opened a day spa as part of a strategy to strengthen the boutique hotel’s wellness offering.

The 650sq m (7,000sq ft) spa has four treatment rooms, a couples’ suite and two rooms for aesthetic medicine.

The spa has been divided into four areas.

Described as "Breathing Rooms", the treatment areas have been designed to help guests breathe deeply during treatments.

The Dream room is described as a “binaural acoustic and dynamic stimulation booth”, offering a 30-minute experience called Spa Wave, using techniques of deep relaxation and meditation.

In the Touch room, guests can try out a treatment based on the ancient Greek concept of ‘psammotherapy’. Carried out on a wooden table covered with heated, alpha-quartz sand, the hot sand is used to relieve pain.

There’s also a Health Bar, offering guests an exclusive menu of detox juices and superfood-enriched smoothies devised by a nutritionist.

Additional facilities include a heated outdoor pool.

Speaking to Spa Opportunities, Inma Moreno – Alàbriga’s director of wellbeing – said the spa will enrich the offering of the Alabriga Hotel, which offers accommodation in 30 luxury 'home suites'.

"Alàbriga’s wellbeing element is designed as a sanctuary,” she said. “And the personalised treatments can also be performed in the comfort of guest rooms.

“We’ve also created a new concept called Wellbeing 360º. It’s an innovative concept aiming to relieve guests of the responsibility so often imposed on them to choose from endless lists of services, instead offering exclusive, individually-customised programmes.”

Treatments offered at the spa include ayurveda, traditional chinese medicine, facials, body treatments and hammam-based experiences. There is also a treatment menu designed for children.

Product lines used at the spa include Swiss beauty houses Sothys and Phytobiodermie as well as French spa brand Charme d’Orient.

Other suppliers to have worked on the spa include RKF Luxury linen, Indiba Deep Care, Klafs, Lemi, Gharieni, Dornbracht and Technogym.

Located above Girona’s Sagaro Bay – a secluded corner of the Costa Brava – the Alabriga Hotel has 30 suites, each accommodating four to eight guests and offering furnished terraces and a private spa pool overlooking the sea.

The hotel is marketed as a destination focusing on wellness and food. The hotel has a restaurant lead by Michelin-starred chef Paco Perez.
