Diana Mestre consults on 35,000sq ft, two-level Los Cabos spa
POSTED 26 Aug 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
The spa will include 16 treatment rooms, some with a water view, as well as a bridal suite
The Grand Velas Los Cabos is set to open in Mexico in late 2016, with a two-level, 35,000sq ft (3,252sq m) spa that will include a guided water journey.

The spa will include 16 treatment rooms, some with a water view, as well as a bridal suite.

Spa consultant Diana Mestre has conceptualised the spa menu with Josselyn De la Mora Alvarado, spa director at the resort. The menu features some of the most requested treatments from Grand Velas Los Cabos’s sister properties in Riviera Maya.

Included in any treatment of 50 minutes or more, a seven-step water journey features a eucalyptus-scented steam room with chromotherapy, polar pool, aromatherapy sensory shower, sauna, whirlpool and multi-sensory pool.

The central pool features several hydro elements, such as massaging faucets, as well as bubble beds – carved stone chaises with jets set underneath the surface of the water on which guests recline.

A spa valet provides personalised direction to make sure guests get the most out of the hydrotherapy experience, providing advice such as how to alternate the various hot and cold rooms and pools, and how long to linger in them.

Upon completion of the water journey, guests recline on heated loungers with warm neck pillows, cool scented towels and cucumbers on the eyes in order to speed relaxation for treatments.

The spa menu offers more than twenty treatments, which are organised into ceremonies. The Ceremony of Mexico features a fusion of flavours and aromas along with traditional healing techniques, including a Blue Agave Candle Massage, Blue Agave Exfoliation, Tequila Cream Massage, Ancient Stone Massage and Chocolate Wrap.

Other ceremonies include a Light Ceremonies, which focus on facials; Sand Ceremonies, which feature body treatments; and the Ceremony of Well-Being, which offers restoring massages.

The spa also will include a men’s barber shop, beauty salon, spa boutique, Life Fitness centre, Spa Moments poolside and upon arrival, and a rooftop garden for meditation.

The resort itself is the fifth property of the family-owned and operated Velas Resorts, and is a US$150m (€133m, £113m) beachfront development with 306 bedrooms.

Six two-level Wellness Suites are also on tap for the resort. The suites are double-height with lofted ceilings, and feature wellness and fitness amenities, such as Life Fitness recline bike, a spa concierge, Vitamin C sprinkler, crudite minibar, aromatherapy kit, in-suite massage and more. All Wellness Suites face the spa, and include their own juice bar.

Architect Ricardo Elias, principal of Elias and Elias Architects in Guadalajara, has designed the hotel with traditional Mexican architectural details, and also worked on the interior design, along with Ernesto Vela and interior designer Melin Castro.
