Hotel d’Inghilterra Roma has launched its reimagined spa facilities in the centre of Rome, Italy.

Part of the privately-owned Florence-based Starhotels Collection, the 92-key hotel has received extensive refurbishment.

Since it first opened as a hotel in 1845, near Rome’s Spanish Steps and the Via Condotti, the property has hosted notable figures, such as Oscar Wilde, Mark Twain, Elizabeth Taylor and Audrey Hepburn.

Originally, the building was a 16th-century residence for guests of the House of Torlonia, a noble family from Rome that administered the Vatican’s finances.

Upgraded spa

The design for the spa uses soft light and a palette of pale warm tones and travertine surfaces to create a calming atmosphere. Travertine is a porous limestone deposited by hot mineral springs. It adorns the walls and floors of the spa and is featured in the large hot tub, offering a flavour of traditional ancient Roman bathhouses.

Glass and gold metal accents have been used in combination with marble and dark walnut furniture.

The main area is called the Fonti Serenitatis and has a relaxation zone, bathroom, changing area and hot tub. Herbal teas, infusions and flavoured waters are served in the relaxation area.

The spa has a double treatment room and a single treatment room. The double room has a steam bath by Starpool.

Treatments

The spa team are trained in a range of traditional Asian massage techniques in collaboration with the KamiSpa brand.

The spa menu features a combination of Thai, Shiatsu and Lomi-Lomi techniques, performed using a blend of Asian oils.

Signature treatments include a massage with warm granite stones inspired by ancient Himalayan traditions, called Calor Thermalis. The Lumen Scrub is an Indonesian beauty ritual that incorporates Javanese coffee.

Facial treatments are provided in partnership with Sisley.

Massimo Colli, Hotel d’Inghilterra’s general manager, said: “The spa is the crowning jewel of our recent transformation. Here, guests can experience the same sense of rejuvenation that the Romans sought centuries ago, a therapeutic journey that cleanses, relaxes and ultimately restores."

The property’s updated gym has Technogym equipment, including treadmills and stationary bikes. There’s also a dedicated area for yoga and Pilates.

Starhotels is a privately-owned collection of 31 hotels across Italy (including Florence) and in major world cities such as London, Paris and New York.
