Inside the health club with a £100,000 joining fee
POSTED 01 Dec 2015 . BY Jak Phillips
The Ezia Athletic Club will provide an 'integrated approach to wellness'
A high-end island resort health club offering “best in class people, programmes and facilities” will cost a cool US$150,000 (€142,000, £100,000) to join when it officially opens in Q2 2017.

The Ezia Athletic Club, on the remote island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, is aimed at affluent executives and their families, providing an integrated approach to wellness, backed by performance coaches, physical therapists, nutritionists and medical doctors.

Founder and general manager Isaiah Truyman told Health Club Management the resort’s hefty price tag would provide members “privacy and quality with a result-oriented focus.” It will cost US$150,000 per family to join the club – roughly the cost of 833 years’ membership at a budget gym – plus dues of US$5,000 (€4,732, £3,323) a year.

At the heart of the facility will be a 7,000sq ft (650sq m) performance gym, with a ‘best in class’ approach to functional, strength and CV equipment. Suppliers set to feature in the gym include Power Lift platforms and cages, Freemotion cable cross, Ivanko free weights, Woodway 4front treadmills, Wattbikes and Concept 2 rowers.

Above the gym on the mezzanine is a glass-walled group exercise studio featuring yoga, pilates, spinning and bootcamp workouts. Elsewhere, a huge outdoor astroturf training field provides space for training and playing sports.

Members and their guests will be able to relax by the Olympic-sized swimming pool, large whirlpool, and outdoor lounge area with private cabanas. There will also be a juice bar and an outdoor sports bar which can be rented for private events.

On the spa side, the Ezia sports therapy centre will feature eight private treatment rooms and wet space featuring hot tubs, cold plunge pools, laser treatments and “other advanced modalities to promote healing and rejuvenation.”
According to Truyman, he and business partner Jeffrey Kaschuluck are focusing on a single club offering at this time, but may look to grow in the future “if things are going well and we have the right partners.”
