Intercontinental Park Lane to reopen on schedule
POSTED 16 Jun 2006 . BY Sarah Todd
The 147-room InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane in London, UK, is scheduled to reopen later this year, following a £60m (US$111m, 87m euro) refurbishment project.

The project incorporates a brand new 3,230sq ft (300sq m) spa which has been created by London-based designers and architects RDD and developed in collaboration with skincare company Elemis.

The as yet unnamed facility will feature five standard treatment rooms, a VIP suite with a separate entrance, a rasul and a 1,400sq ft (130sq m) gym equipped by Life Fitness.

Guest rooms adjacent to the spa have been transformed into a studio and a one-bedroom spa suite where treatments can be performed in private.

Products will be supplied by Steiner brands Elemis and La Thérapie. The treatment menu covers advanced anti-ageing facials, specialised male grooming, exotic rituals, a full range of muscular and relaxation body massages and beauty, skincare and detox therapies.

“The essence of the spa will be about providing a truly personalised spa service to suit our customers,” London InterContinental Hotel’s director of marketing, Simon Scoot, said.

“During the week 80 per cent of our customers will be business travellers so we’re going to arrange the availability of treatment rooms and therapists to coincide with flight arrivals, especially those coming from the US, as 45 per cent of our guests will be Americans.”

At weekends, says Scoot, the balance will change, with corporate clients making up only 20 per cent of business and leisure guests accounting for 80 per cent. The average age of the customers is projected to be between 30 and 49.

“Our spa will be a business in its own right, competing with spas at the Mandarin Oriental, The Berkeley Hotel and Carlton Towers,” Scoot added.

When the work is complete, the InterContinental London will also feature a brand new club lounge, a destination restaurant, an all-day-dining restaurant and a new lobby lounge and bar. Details: www.intercontinental.com
