Joyce Wang will lead re-design of London's historic Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel

This comprehensive renovation will result in superior facilities for all of our guests, and further enhance our reputation as one of the best hotels in the world
– Gérard Sintès, general manager of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London
The Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group have commissioned interior designer Joyce Wang to lead a multi-million-pound restoration of its European flagship, the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London.

Wang – who previously oversaw the recent renovation of The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong – will create the overall design concept for the Edwardian hotel’s 181 rooms, suites and public areas. She has taken her inspiration from the building’s park-side location, the glamorous role it played in the early 20th century’s Golden Age of travel, and its heritage as a popular destination for royalty.

Art Deco-inspired features, including carefully curated artworks and custom-designed furniture, will result “in a warm and inviting environment” throughout the hotel, and the entrance, main lobby and reception areas will be reconfigured and redesigned to maximise natural daylight. In addition, the building’s famous façade will be revitalised.

Meanwhile, hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany has been appointed to oversee the re-design of the hotel’s “next-generation” spa, which will complement a recently installed contemporary pool and fitness area. The facility will be significantly expanded to include couples’ facilities and an exclusive Mandarin Oriental Spa Studio concept, offering “powerful and effective express beauty and grooming treatments for both men and women.”

Tihany will also collaborate on a soft refurbishing of two of the hotel’s famous restaurants – Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, which has two Michelin stars, and Bar Boulud by Michelin-starred French chef Daniel Boulud.

“Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London is one of the city’s most legendary hotels with an unparalleled location,” said Gérard Sintès, general manager of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London. “We are known for our royal history and we are the only hotel overlooking Hyde Park with a view of the Royal Horse Guards passing daily.

“This comprehensive renovation will result in superior facilities for all of our guests, and further enhance our reputation as one of the best hotels in the world.”

Sintès added that the hotel will remain “open for business” throughout the renovation, which will be completed in the first half of 2018, with “everything possible done to minimise disruption and noise.”
