The world's first pollution free spa has opened in Macau.

Spa Philosophy, which opened last month, has an Oxyvital air processing unit which takes out pollutants from the 3,500 sq ft spa and pumps in fresh, clean, healthy air. The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology has proven that inhaling clean air promotes restful sleep, overcomes fatigue and improves the skin's health.

Spa Philosophy's Managing Director Mandy Chan says

'At Spa Philosophy, we believe true health and beauty comes from within. And it starts with the quality of air we breathe.

Singapore based consultants Spa Synergy worked in conjunction with architect and designer CL3 to create the pollution free spa - Macau's first day spa.

Offering over 40 treatments for both men and women, the spa draws on the principals of traditional Chinese medicine, aromatherapy and light and colour therapies to treat the guest's body and soul.

The eight treatment rooms, including a couple's suite called Moon and Sun are decorated to reflect the five elements of Chinese healing philosophy - water, earth, wood, fire and metal.

Watery coloured mosaic tiles in the entrance hall lead to a warmer toned consultation area and off that a relaxing lounge area is reached by stepping stones over a water channel of deep slate.

Spa Philosophy's signature treatments are an oxygenating facial which oxygenates cells by using special massage techniques, and the Healing Hands massage which balances the chakras and tackles aches and pains with Chinese acuppressure.

Swiss skincare range Phytobiodermie is used in treatments while London based Aromatherapy Associates has designed an aromatherapy massage using its essential oils, which is exclusive to Spa Philosophy.
