Lowcountry-inspired spa debuts at South Carolina’s Montage Palmetto Bluff
POSTED 12 Sep 2016 . BY Jane Kitchen
The Spa Montage Palmetto Bluff takes inspiration from the area’s Lowcountry to create a soulful experience for guests, and is styled with Southern and coastal inspiration
A new 13,000sq ft (1,208sq m) signature spa has opened at the newly renovated and expanded Montage Palmetto Bluff in South Carolina, US.

The Spa Montage Palmetto Bluff takes inspiration from the area’s Lowcountry to create a soulful experience for guests, and is styled with Southern and coastal inspiration. Antique heart pine floors, wrought iron gates, traditional crown molding and a palette of coastal hues are found throughout the spa’s public areas and 13 treatment rooms.

Views of the lagoon forest add to the sense of tranquility, while outdoor relaxation patios feature eucalyptus steam rooms, a whirlpool, cold-plunge pool and redwood saunas. The spa also includes a full-service salon and private nail spa area.

The spa is the exclusive East Coast location for Jacqueline Piotaz Switzerland skincare line, and also features Kerstin Florian products.

Locally inspired offerings include The Signature Carolina Kur Experience, using minerals from the May River; as well as a firming and nurturing Signature High Cotton Massage.

The resort also features a fitness centre with movement studio and cardio/strength area with Life Fitness equipment, as well as a range of daily fitness classes.

Montage Palmetto Bluff also has access to 32 miles of riverfront and an array of water-based activities including kayaking, paddle boarding, canoeing and waterskiing.

Montage Hotels & Resorts acquired management of the property in February 2014, making it the brand’s first East Coast Location.

The resort is located within 20,000 acres of the historic community of Bluffton, South Carolina, and Montage has expanded the resort in partnership with owner Crescent Communities and developer The Athens Group, adding 152 new guestrooms in addition to the 48 existing guest cottages, as well as 35 Montage-branded residences.

A new Inn building designed by Hart Howerton, HKS Hill Glazier Studio and Wilson Associates features classic, Southern-styled architecture inspired by the R. T. Wilson Jr. Mansion built on the property in the early 1900s.

The Inn pays homage to the former Wilson Mansion with its vast front porch and entry columns, as well as a grand interior space, adorned with a collection of antiques and fine art.

Guest rooms are designed in classic Colonial-style, honouring the region’s architectural heritage, and the 35 single-family homes are designed by local firm Pearce Scott Architects with traditional Lowcountry architecture, which embraces an indoor-outdoor lifestyle.
