The Hotel Astoria in St Petersburg, Russia, part of the Rocco Forte Hotels chain, begins the new year with wholly refurbished health facilities.

A new gym with both aerobic and anaerobic exercise stations has been added, and the 24-hour access to the health facilities will be welcomed by visitors.

A brand new spa has also been added, offering a sauna, steamroom and four treatment rooms for aromatherapy and a number of massage stations.

The hotel, with its 230 air-conditioned bedrooms and 40 suites, has five presidential suites – named after famous composers – overlooking the famous Saint Isaac’s Cathedral in the city centre.

The hotel has an eminent past and according to history books, was the site where Adolf Hitler planned to celebrate his victory over Russia.
