Nuffield Health to launch major City gym for Swiss banking giant
POSTED 02 Nov 2015 . BY Jak Phillips
Spread across 12,584sq ft (1,169sq m), the 110-station gym includes two studios
Nuffield Health is partnering with global financial services firm UBS to develop a major corporate fitness facility for 6,000 staff at its new London headquarters.

The tie-up comes as Nuffield Health seeks to boost its corporate wellness presence among London’s top companies. The operator already provides corporate wellness services to 60 per cent of companies listed on the UK’s FTSE 100 index, but is making moves to gain an even bigger market share.

Due to open in August 2016, the latest gym will be situated within UBS’s new UK head office in Broadgate, London. Spread across 12,584sq ft (1,169sq m), the 110-station gym includes two studios and a large selection of equipment from Technogym’s Artis range.

The gym will also contain Woodway treadmills, Wattbikes, Matrix IC7 bikes and Myride, Speedflex, plus a rehab zone. The studio will offer around 100 virtual classes per week, such as Bodypump, Grit, Yoga, Pilates, HIIT, Studio Cycling, functional workshops, Boxercise, Tabata, Strength & Conditioning, Stretch and Tone, metabolic Circuits and technique workshops.

With 131 million days lost in 2013 due to sickness absences in the UK, Nuffield is emphasising the fact that a corporate wellbeing strategy can improve employees’ health and quality of life, helping to reduce absenteeism and improve productivity and return on investment for businesses.

“We work with 1,600 businesses across the UK and we know that by investing in employee wellbeing, companies are investing in their future,” said Dr Andrew Jones, Nuffield Health wellbeing managing director.

“Keeping employees fit, happy and healthy is crucial in today's fast paced business environment. We are really looking forward to working with UBS and helping them achieve their goals.”

Open from 6am-9pm, the fitness facility will oversee running clubs, sports specific training sessions, sports and social activities, sports clubs, as well as competitive performance event training. Members will also be taken through Nuffield’s Health MOT, with an embedded physiologist to help with referrals and rehab.
