Six Senses Resorts & Spas has signed a partnership deal with The Alpina Gstaad, Switzerland to develop and manage the hotel's spa.

Scheduled to open in December 2012, The Alpina Gstaad is set in the heart of the Bernese Alps and will have 56 rooms and suites.

The boutique hotel will have a 2,000sq m (21,500sq ft) Six Senses Spa with a design that will "infuse the Alpine spirit of the surrounding environment with an Eastern flair". Thailand-based P49 Deesign and Associates are leading the design.

The spa will feature five multi-functional single treatment rooms, a floatation room, a hammam, an Oriental room, a Cave room as well as a Kids Spa.

There will also be additional treatment rooms dedicated to specialist therapies such as Ayurveda and colour therapy and colonic hydrotherapy.

Other facilities include a Salt room, a swimming pool, a variety of relaxation rooms, a juice bar, a gym and a studio for yoga, pilates and aerobics.

The Kids Spa will feature a swimming pool, a salt area and a spa menu focusing on specialised children's treatments under parental guidance.

The Six Senses Spa will offer a wide range of Six Senses signature and locally-inspired treatments, Asian and ayurvedic therapies as well as beauty treatments.

In addition, there will be specialist results-driven programmes such as detox, weight-loss and fitness, supported through workshops and individual consultations.

Bernhard Bohnenberger, president of Six Senses Resorts and Spas, said: "The Alpina Gstaad and the team's goal of setting a completely new level of distinction and authenticity goes hand-in-hand with Six Senses Spas' philosophy of creating harmonious and sensorial spaces which adapt seamlessly with local culture and surroundings and deliver unique and memorable spa experiences.

"Our spa at The Alpina Gstaad will carefully merge local traditions with Six Senses' signature features to delight guests from around the world."
