South African Western Cape spa reopens
POSTED 12 Jan 2007 . BY Sarah Todd
The Arabella South Africa Western Cape Hotel and Spa has completed a R7.5m (£5.8m, 8.6m euro, US$11.07m) refurbishment of its spa and facilities.

The spa reopened on 21 July and is located an hour from Cape Town, while the revamp included an upgrade of all treatment rooms and communal areas.

Anja Engels, head of spa for Arabella Hotel Holdings International and the mastermind behind the new spa concept, said she wanted to create something of Africa, for Africa.

Enjels worked closely on the spa with South African interior designer Yvonne Smuts to create the spa, which includes ‘quartz carpet’, a specially designed floor covering that feels warm to the feet but is non-slip when wet.

The spa boasts 15 treatment rooms plus a sauna, steamroom, hydropool and fully equipped fitness centre.

The spa will stock TheraVINE, a locally-sourced Stellenbosch-produced wellness and beauty range and Dermalogica.

The signature treatment is The African Rainforest Experience, a 15-step therapy comprising therapeutic showers, scrubs and steam treatments. Each stage is experienced individually to intensify the result.

Jörg Böckeler, CEO and area manager of Arabella South Africa Holdings, said: “We made this investment in The Western Cape Hotel and Spa in order to create standards of luxury that set us apart and that offer our visitors an experience that lives up to the promise of our incredible surroundings.”

The Western Cape Hotel and Spa is owned by the Arabella group, which also has three other properties in South Africa – the Arabella Sheraton Grand Hotel, the Blaauwklippen Wine Estate and Paulaner Bräuhaus. Details: www.westerncapehotelandspa.co.za
