Starwood opens 45th location worldwide with Swiss expansion
POSTED 03 Dec 2013 . BY Tom Anstey
The 123-bedroom hotel is W’s first in an alpine ski resort
The W Verbier Hotel in Switzerland has officially opened, marking the 45th W Hotel of the Starwood brand, the first W-branded hotel in Switzerland and Starwood’s first ever ski retreat.

The 123-bedroom hotel features an 800sq m (8,600sq ft) signature Away Spa. The spa has nine treatment rooms, two of which are couples rooms, a sauna, hammam, steamroom and whirlpool, while offering aromatherapy, massage and beauty treatments.

The new hotel also includes a fitness centre, bar, cafe, lounge area and an indoor/outdoor pool deck for guests.

The opening of W Verbier continues the W brand’s rapidly expanding global growth, which began 15 years ago and is set to reach 60 hotels by 2017.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide CEO and president Frits van Paasschen
said: “The lasting impact W Hotels has made on the hotel industry cannot be overstated. Over the past 15 years, W has turned the staid hospitality landscape on its head and demonstrated that a hotel is more than a place to check in and checkout as it continues to reinvent the category it created with each new hotel opening around the world.”

Located in the village of Verbier, the new W Hotel will make up part of a multi-component luxury development project owned by Les Trois Rocs - the team behind the Medran project, a pedestrian-friendly development, that will include the new W Verbier and commercial spaces for new businesses.
