The Club Company acquires Woodbury Park
POSTED 15 Nov 2016 . BY Tom Walker
The 56-bedroom luxury hotel is located within 350 acres of Devon countryside
Golf and health club operator The Club Company has acquired Woodbury Park, a golf hotel with a health club and spa, near Exeter in Devon.

The 56-bedroom luxury hotel, originally created by former Formula 1 world champion Nigel Mansell, is located on a 350 acre estate and was sold from a guide price of £11.75m – although the exact price has not been disclosed.

Facilities at the hotel include an 18-hole championship golf course, a nine-hole par three course, tennis courts, a health club with exercise studios and sauna and a day spa with six treatment rooms.

The health club houses a large gym floor with cv and resistance machines, a free weights area and a zone fitted with vibration trainers.

Personal training is also available, as is a wide range of group exercise classes – such as zumba, pilates and indoor cycling.

The acquisition is part of a busy investment period for The Club Company. Over the past year, the group has acquired the Wharton Park Country Club in Worcestershire and invested a total of £7.5m in two existing sites – The Warwickshire country club and Castle Royle in Berkshire.

In August this year, it ploughed £1m into improving the health club and spa at The Warwickshire.

In a statement, the company said: “Woodbury Park is a perfect addition to our portfolio, as it offers high quality facilities for all the family.

“This investment demonstrates The Club Company’s desire to expand its portfolio, subject to identifying attractive sites in suitable locations.”

The Club Company was acquired by US-based private equity firm Lone Star in February 2015.

It now owns and operates 12 properties across the UK.
