The much-delayed £36m ($67.4m, 51.7m Euros) Thermae Bath Spa project in the UK is to have an additional £3.5m ($6.5m, 5m Euros) of public money provided for the scheme.
The latest cash injection – which was approved by Bath and North East Somerset Council officials – for developments takes the total cost to almost £40m ($74.8m, 57.5m Euros).
The project was intended to restore Bath’s historic thermal spas for public use but since the plans were revealed in 2000, the construction been beset by problems.
The spa was originally intended to open in April 2003.
Previously, the opening date was delayed due to a problem centring on faulty paintwork on the pool walls of the spa.
Most recently, a fault was discovered in the waterproof floors of the spa’s steamroom. This led to an angry dispute between the architects, Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, the local council and contractors, Mowlem.
