Massiv by name, massive by nature as world's tallest water coaster opens
POSTED 25 Jul 2016 . BY Alice Davis
Schlitterbahn Waterpark Galveston celebrates 10 years of family fun as it launches its new water coaster, Massiv
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island in Galveston, Texas, is officially the proud owner of the world’s tallest water coaster.

Measuring in at a height of 245m (82ft), the uphill water coaster incorporates rollercoaster elements into a traditional waterslide, including twists and turns, multiple drops and three uphill shoots. Because there are no safety nets attached to the slide, riders get a bigger adrenaline rush as they enjoy the unobscured views.

The the 282m-long (926ft) slide is twice the length of any other slide in the park. Named Massiv, the WhiteWater West-designed Master Blaster marks an investment to celebrate the waterpark’s 10th anniversary celebrations and was officially recognised as the world's tallest by the Guinness Book of Records.

The uphill shoots have been engineered by WhiteWater West to make the waterslide more economical and efficient thanks to pumps that function only while the ride is in operation. This new system saves significant power during operations, cranking up the motor speed only when it’s needed to propel riders uphill.

Schlitterbahn in nearby Kansas City is also attractive to daredevils, boasting one of the world’s tallest and fastest waterslides, which opened in 2014.
