The London Eye is set to run for another 25 years as Lambeth Council extends planning permission until 2027. The popular attraction which opened in 2000 at a cost of £75m was initially granted permission for five years, but its owners, the London Eye Company (LEC), a consortium of BA, the Tussaud's Group and Mark Barfield architects, want it to have a permanent part of London's skyline. Lambeth are currently in talks with LEC about contributions towards the cost of dealing with the extra coaches, rubbish and illegal traders the wheel has attracted.
