Popular and historic wedding venue undergoes amazing transformation
21 Apr 2016 . BY Kate Corney
 /
The latest in luxury design and a classic, historic setting have been brought together beautifully at The Swan at Streatley, thanks to changing room and locker experts Safe Space Lockers.

The hotel and spa has completed phase one of a major refurbishment programme to overhaul the dated Grade II listed property, and create a top destination for informal luxury.

Managing director of Safe Space Lockers Dominic Hyett said: "This is such a beautiful and historic location it was key to get the combination of old and new just right. We made sure we understood exactly what the client was after before drawing up plans to suit their needs. The result: a modern and luxurious space that even the most discerning customers will want to enjoy time in."

The lockers, benches and treatment room furniture - all supplied and fitted by Safe Space Lockers are in a driftwood finish. It blends with the classic design of the rest of the hotel, but still has all the latest features such as fuss-free digital locks on the lockers.

The Swan has been mentioned in children's classic Kenneth Grahame’s “Wind in the Willows”. And in 1881 the writer GD Leslie described it as “the prettiest and quaintest of little hostelries”

Project manager for The Swan, Lorraine Rose, said: "The project is phase one of a major refurbishment and included the transformation of six, sumptuously decorated bedrooms and the relocation of the gym. This is complimented by new sauna and steam facilities, luxurious treatment rooms and a riverside chill out area, all displaying both original features and contemporary design.

"We decided to partner with Safe Space Lockers as their range and finish of products sat well with this vision. From the initial enquiry to completion of the project, the team have been accommodating, professional and prompt with their service and attention to detail.

The new gym is now open to guests, and will be fully operational by March 2016. The entire project is scheduled for completion in 2017, following refurbishment of the hotel restaurant.

Rose adds: "The hotel's colourful history includes mentions in Kenneth Grahame's "Wind in the Willows", and a spell under the ownership of Danny La Rue. It is also one of the most popular wedding venues in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.
