Saltability offers eco-friendly alternative to hot stone massages

Saltability’s Himalayan Salt Stone Massage uses warm, hand-carved salt stones from the Himalayan mountains to stimulate specific meridians on the body.

“I think so many clients are looking for multiple ways to get healthy in one treatment, and Himalayan salt stone massage is a great way to do that,” says Ann Brown, founder of Saltability and 20-year veteran of the spa industry. “And with some great home-use items, they can keep their wellness goals in mind and part of a ritualistic behaviour at home.”

The company also offers a low-energy, eco-friendly warmer that uses a shielded LED energy source and does not require water or chemicals. A seven-day timer can be programmed to turn on 45 minutes prior to the spa opening, and shut off automatically at spa closing time.

“The green nature of this therapeutic treatment really makes it unique for stone massage,” says Brown. “The stones can be used with any good oil, and when they glide over the skin, their rich mineral content is left to be absorbed.”

Brown says she created the warmer as an alternative to the traditional basalt stone warmers.

“(Traditional basalt stone warmers) use a lot of electricity, they have to have bleach and toxic chemicals in the water to kill bacteria between clients, the stones can get very hot – 160 degrees or over – and they use five gallons of water per treatment room,” explains Brown. “In a ten-treatment-room spa, the water savings doing Himalayan salt stone massage can be up to 20,000 gallons of water a year.”
