The Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort, located in the Portuguese tourist hot spot of Vilamoura on the Atlantic coast, has opened its multi-million-Euro spa for the summer season.
The 1,400sq m (15,000sq ft) spa was built by a team that consisted of architects Regino Cruz, spa consultant Aquamédic International and interior designer Agence Quiffet.
With 20 treatment rooms spread over two levels, the spa is one of the largest in the Algarve and offers a range of traditional European treatments and a number of signature therapies based on local products.
Facilities include an Aquamedic swimming pool with four submerged treatment beds, a traditional Moroccan hammam, Vichy shower, a relaxation room and a spa bar serving fruit and herbal refreshments.
Treatments include hydrotherapy, facials, body wraps, hot stone massages, balneotherapy and a range of traditional massages, aromatherapy and algotherapy.
Signature treatments include the Ria Formosa exfoliating body peeling and the Algarve Luminous C and Sea – a deep facial cleansing using marine extracts and local fruit.
The spa also has a private beauty salon, offering guests manicures and pedicures. while spa’s Aquamedic pool can be used for group treatments.
All treatments have been created exclusively for the spa and are branded to carry the spa’s name.
Other amenities include three outdoor swimming pools, six restaurants and two bars.
The Vila Sol Spa is part of the 150-hectare (370-acre) Vila Sol Spa & Golf Resort, which includes a 5-star, 189-room Vila Sol Hotel.
The resort also has two golf courses totalling 27 holes and has twice hosted the Portuguese Open golf championship.
