More than £500,000 of funding meant for Milton Keynes sport and leisure centres could be cut and put towards funding education instead. The council's proposals include reducing their contribution to the leisure trusts that run the city's facilities by 10 per cent, meaning some will lose as much as £90,000 per year. David Hall, chief executive of Shenley Leisure centre, which is set to lose £30,000, said: 'We estimate in the last four years, because we became a charitable trust, we have saved the council £100,000 in rates and VAT, and now they are pulling the rug from under our feet. We can't exist without grant aid.' The council meet this week to decide whether to cut the money.
