Wahanda, online beauty booking platform, has acquired the French equivalent company ZenSoon – a week after announcing the acquisition of Dutch booking website Treatwell as part of its ambitious European expansion plans.

Wahanda’s Japanese owner, Recruit, has released a further €65m (US$73m, £47m) to the company to invest in its development across France, Spain, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg. This is in addition to the €42m (US$47m, £30m) raised in May that has been assigned to grow the UK and German markets.

Lopo Champalimaud, CEO and founder of Wahanda commented: “France is a vitally important strategic market for us as we continue to drive forward our plans to build a world class platform and transform the way people book their hair and beauty appointments globally. The hair and beauty market in France alone is worth €11bn (US$12bn, £8bn), with more than 100,000 spas and salons.”

Following the acquisition of ZenSoon, Wahanda will soon have 1,000 spas and salons in France and 20,000 venues across Europe. ZenSoon is already growing at 30 per cent month-on-month.

Wahanda now has a product offering in 10 countries, with further plans for European expansion in the months ahead.

As part of its European expansion strategy, Wahanda acquired Germany’s Salonmeister in October 2014 and recently took over Austria’s Beautycheck. In January, Lithuanian mobile app development agency LemonLabs joined the team. The company also recently announced it will launch a UK-based academy that will offer sales and marketing advice to salons. The institution will be called the Wahanda Academy.
