The Void – a multi-million dollar next-gen virtual reality gaming experience coming to Utah in 2016 – recently opened reservations for beta testing, with tickets selling out in just a few hours.

The first public test of the unique attraction, the US$10 (€8.70, £6.50) tickets sold out multiple testing slots, running through the days leading up to 26 October.

While in The Void, testers will enter a 60sq ft (5.6 sq m) gaming pod that can be configured in an unlimited number of ways to create an experience in-line with the chosen game. In these game pods, real and haptic environments will be employed, including elevation changes, touching structures and objects, vibrations, air pressure changes, temperature changes and simulated smells. The pods create the ability for users to explore miles and miles of terrain or ascend incredibly tall structures without ever leaving the room.

The Void’s creator, entrepreneur Ken Bretschneider, has so far invested in excess of US$13m (€11.5m, £8.3m). Once fully operational, the concept will be taken worldwide, first debuting in Pleasant Grove, Utah in Q3 2016, with further centres opening in major cities throughout North and South America, Asia, Europe and Australia.

In a statement, a representative of The Void said that the beta test will not only serve as a gauge of interest for the project, but will also offer invaluable data which will be used to take the project forward.
