Architects propose jungle-infused towers featuring Singapore's largest public plaza

German studio Ingenhoven Architects have designed a garden-themed Singapore tower scheme featuring the city's largest public plaza.

The mixed-use Marina One project will comprise four 30-storey towers infused with lush greenery on every floor. Green sky terraces and tree-covered public spaces on the rooftops have been included to make the complex appear like a plant-covered mountain rising up into the Singapore skyline.

Ingenhoven were selected by developer M+S Pte Limited as the lead designer of the concept. They are working on the project alongside local studio Architects61 and London-based Gustafson Porter.

A vast garden atrium – named the 'Green Heart' – will sit at the base of the towers. The plaza will provide a tranquil public gateway to a leisure zone housing restaurants and cafes, a fitness club, a food court and event spaces.

The garden’s layout and plants have been designed by Gustafson Porter in conjunction with Ingenhoven and local firm ICN Design International.

The development, located in the city-state’s Marina Bay, has been granted LEED Platinum pre-certification. In addition to the abundance of greenery, the environmentally-smart design will utilise solar power and a rainwater harvesting system.

The project is expected to be realised by 2017.

Meanwhile, work has recently begun on the Gustafson Porter-designed Valencia Parque Central, which will see more than 55 acres of plants, trees and flowers added in the heart of Spain’s third-largest city.
