An eco-friendly spa has opened in shopping centre in Del Mar, California. Owned by an English couple who moved to the area in September 2014, the spa – a member of
Green Spa Network – has debuted in The Flower Hill Promenade centre: a shopping mall that was originally designed by Smith Consulting Architects.
The day spa, called SpaBlue, has taken over a previous spa location – a spokesperson told
Spa Opportunities. The 65,000sq ft (6,039sq m) facility comprises 13 treatment rooms, a 700sq ft (65sq m) nail salon, male and female locker rooms and showers. There is also a eucalyptus steamroom, a mixed gender relaxation room and retail area.
Co-owners Emma and Tom Hughes bought the former Spa Gregorie location and have made it into an eco-friendly business by reducing and recycling printed paper, using non-toxic and biodegradable cleaning products and compostable cups. Shower heads in locker rooms reduce water usage and locally-sourced San Diego ingredients are used in the spa.
Products at the spa include SpaRitual, ARcona, Epicuren, Coola, Farmhouse Fresh and MoroccanOil.
