Chiva-Som closes for six-month renovation
POSTED 30 May 2018 . BY Jane Kitchen
The Thai Pavilions will be brighter, lighter and more spacious
Thailand's Chiva- Som International Health Resort has closed its doors for a six-month period to embark on its next phase of renovations.

The resort, which will reopen on 1 November 2018, begins the third of four phases of its extensive remodelling, following the launch of the new Ocean Rooms and Suites in January 2017. A fourth and final phase of works will take place at the same time next year.

This refurbishment is being overseen by chair and CEO of Chiva-Som International Health Resort, Krip Rojanastien, who together with architecture firm Designrealization Siam, has developed a modern and fresh take" on the destination spa.

The latest developments will comprise a complete overhaul to the Thai Pavilions, Emerald Room, Orchid Lounge, Library, Fitness Centre and Niranlada Medi-Spa.

The Niranlada Medi-Spa will evolve from its original clinical design to become warmer and more relaxing. The consultation room will provide greater privacy during body assessments, and a new makeup room will be added.

The Fitness Centre will increase in size to incorporate a larger gym area and a separate stretching space with an array of new cardio equipment, functional and non-functional training equipment, as well as a private training room.

The Kinesis Room will be renamed the Re-functional Studio, home to a private Neurac Room, Functional Assessment room and boasting brand new equipment, including a Biodex 4 Pro Isokinetic Dynamometer to help with rehabilitation, leg mobility and balance, as well as preparing the body for more strenuous exercise.

Further additions are the highly versatile and space-efficient Queenax functional training equipment; a unique suspended body weight-training system and an Electrical Muscle Stimulation system (Vision Body) to help reduce exercise-induced joint damage and aid recovery.

In line with the new resort master plan, the new look is realised with materials such as local teak, silk and bamboo. The Thai Pavilions will be brighter, lighter and more spacious, and a new room category, the Thai Pavilion Suite, will feature an outdoor pantry and its own outdoor private glass-walled sala, a private space for around six guests set amidst the gardens and suitable for private meals or meditation.

The Emerald Room will get a new glass wall, and the Orchid Lounge will undergo a complete makeover to become a sociable spot in which guests can interact. The Library will also become airier and the new home of the retail shop, whilst the Guest Relations Desk will be moved to a more private and discreet part of the resort.

While the resort is closed, Chiva-Som specialists will continue to guide and share their expert knowledge through a series of short videos called Talking Wellness, covering a range of activities and advice, from massage techniques to cooking demonstrations. All are available to watch on the resort’s website, You Tube channel and Facebook page.
