Medical spa brand, Lanserhof Group, is continuing to grow its footprint, with construction well underway for its new €100m (US$116.6m, £90.3m) resort on the island of Sylt in northern Germany.

The destination’s topping-out ceremony took place on 2 October 2020 and signifies a milestone in the build.

In addition to the signature LANS Med Concept, Lanserhof Sylt will focus on cardiological rehabilitation for acute or chronic diseases, as well as treatment for respiratory and skin diseases.

Guests will be offered an individual, holistic approach and connection between natural therapy and high-tech medicine.

Under the medical management of Dr Jan Stritzke, the former head of cardiology at the Asklepios North Sea Clinic Westerland, a team of the world’s leading experts will provide extensive medical care for guests, as well as external visitors and residents of the island.

Sylt will also offer a 5,000sq m treatment facility completed with a spacious spa area featuring saunas, steam baths, relaxation area and indoor and outdoor pool with a sun terrace hidden in the dunes.

Located on one of the highest elevations on the islands, the resort will cover 20,000sq m and be complete with 67 guest rooms. Visitors will discover a panoramic view of the nearby harbour and the adjacent landscape conservation area, against the backdrop of the Wadden Sea.

Built on the former military officers' home area of the List, the construction and design of Lanserhof Sylt are under the direction of Lanserhof architect, Christoph Ingenhoven, founder of Ingenhoven Architects.

A total of six buildings will be restored in close cooperation with the local monument protection authorities and complete with a signature Lanserhof design.

According to Ingenhoven, the design is inspired in part by the local architecture of Sylt.

“It’s a beautiful island and a very prestigious place; like the Hamptons of Germany,” he told Spa Business.

“Architecturally, the special thing about the buildings on the island of Sylt is that they have big overhanging reed roofs, so I said that’s what I want to do in our design because I like the material.

"It offers a range of possibilities: it’s smooth, it’s curvy, it makes soft organic shapes possible. We’re building a huge reed roof – one of the biggest ever. It’s a challenge and we like that kind of challenge very much.”

Lanserhof Sylt is scheduled to open in autumn 2021 and first reservations can be accepted from summer 2021.
