Babor achieves milestone announcing it’s gone carbon-neutral
POSTED 26 Mar 2020 . BY Megan Whitby
Protecting the environment is central to Babor’s philosophy
German skincare brand Babor has announced it has reached climate neutrality.

The brand uses green electricity, photovoltaics, and climate-neutral renewable natural gas, production at its headquarters in Aachen, Germany, which has been carbon-neutral since 2014.

Working together with a carbon footprint offset company – called ClimatePartner – Babor has now calculated its carbon footprint and is offsetting all emissions that cannot yet be prevented through its own measures. For instance, the company offsets the delivery of all raw materials and packaging.

In total, Babor is offsetting 8,050,770kg of CO2 a year.

Protecting the environment is central to Babor’s philosophy and it operates with sustainable measures, such as purifying and recycling water used in the production process to be re-used as drinking water.

Babor also has a sustainability plan in place, called the Green Agenda 2025, which involves an interdisciplinary sustainability team scrutinising processes and developing solutions for operating even more sustainably.

The company is also funding a wind farm in the Philippines and supporting the globally active initiative, Plastic Bank, where people in Haiti, Indonesia, and the Philippines are harvesting plastic waste from beaches, which helps to boost their income.

This plastic is recycled as social plastic so new products can be created from it. For every tonne of CO2 that’s offset, Babor simultaneously offsets 10kg of plastic waste.

The team at Babor has also announced a target of reducing the use of plastics by 30 per cent by 2023.
