Dermalogica launches new safety strategy to help spas re-open safely
POSTED 06 May 2020 . BY Megan Whitby
Dermalogica claims its new principles go beyond what is legally mandated but should not replace state board or local authority regulations

What counts is that we've defined the most appropriate steps now so that the industry can embark on the changes necessary to make facial skincare services a reality
– Aurelian Lis
SKincare brand Dermalogica has unveiled measures to help its spas and professional skin therapists reopen their businesses, once the time is right in their local markets.

Developed with staff and consumers’ safety as the top priority, the new measures include three components: Dermalogica’s 12 Principles for Enhanced Service Safety, detailed safety protocols and a free training course for skin therapists.

Named the Clean Touch Certification, the course involves online training on the key principles and enhanced protocols and has had over 4,400 applicants apply to be certified. After testing knowledge and making a pledge to uphold these principles, skin therapists will earn a certificate recognising them as Clean Touch Certified.

Dermalogica claims its new principles go beyond what is legally mandated but should not replace state board or local authority regulations.

“As science progresses, we will surely need to loosen or tighten the safety precautions,” stated
Dermalogica CEO Aurelian Lis.

“What counts is that we have defined the most appropriate steps now so that the industry can embark on the changes necessary to make facial skincare services a reality. With big business focused on digital or sitting it out, skin therapists are not willing to give up on the important industry of human touch and connection.”

Dermalogica has also hinted at a new “Back in Touch” global marketing campaign, created to support Dermalogica skin therapists as they start thinking about reopening and reconnecting with their clients.

The campaign will launch in select Dermalogica markets in May 2020 and continue a wider roll-out as local communities suggest that it is safe to do so.
