The UK-based Hairdressing and Beauty Industry Association (HABIA) has unveiled a new Diploma in hair and beauty studies.
Designed to give 14-19 year-olds the chance to study a broad programme of learning, it combines different forms of study with practical, workplace experience.
The Diploma is based upon an educational idea called applied learning, instead of the more traditional vocational or academic routes.
Applied learning allows students to acquire and apply knowledge, skills and understanding through tasks set in contexts that have many of the characteristics of ‘real’ work.
The Diploma will be available in three levels – Foundation, Higher and Advanced – and is due to be launched across England in 2009.
