Hoshinoya Tokyo combines 'urban luxury' with traditional Japanese hospitality
POSTED 27 Jan 2017 . BY Rebecca Barnes
The hotel and resort was designed by Azuma Architect & Associates
Situated in Tokyo’s business district, the latest offering from hotel and resort operator Hoshinoya Resorts, Hoshinoya Tokyo, features a spa and top floor natural hot spring.

Designed by Azuma Architect & Associates and created by large-scale construction specialists Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei, the 17-storey, 84 room hotel is the city’s first luxury ryokan (traditional Japanese inn), offering traditional Japanese culture combined with high-level hospitality.

Each floor of the hotel replicates a single ryokan, while guest rooms feature cotton futons, low level furniture, deep bathtubs and contemporary styling.

A key feature is the onsen – an inside/outside bath – which is located along a dimly lit corridor on the top floor and is enclosed by walls, providing guests with an unobstructed view of the sky.

The Otemachi Hot Spring's gentle, mineral-rich waters are piped up from 1500 metres below street level; they are reported to help the body maintain its temperature and heal cuts, while helping to revitalise and reduce fatigue.

The spa offers a variety of oil-based massage treatments and facials, including the Shiki massage which involves the use of a warm ball filled with ground seasonal herbs.

In addition, the personalised Body Remake session analyses body conditions before prescribing exercises to suit. Also on the menu are stretching exercises, hot spring dips and oil treatments.
