The first JW Marriott property in Greece has just opened – the JW Marriott Crete Resort and Spa in Marathi in Crete, ranges across more than 100 acres of the island’s coastline.

It’s the first Mediterranean beach resort for the brand.

The design, by Athens-based studio Block722, is inspired by the natural environment and integrates into the landscape with planted roofs, olive and carob tree groves – and natural materials including marble and wood.

Each of the hotels’ 160 guest rooms, suites and villas have wide sweeping views of the Aegean, while the interiors are calm, with a palette of earthy Mediterranean tones, sculptural lighting and ceramic decorative pieces.

Sustainability was a key ambition during the project’s construction. It has geothermal and solar energy harvesting and a system for recovering heat from air conditioning units. Treated grey water is used for irrigation.

The Anoseas Spa and wellness facilities

The resort’s 850sq m Anoseas Spa was designed by Block722, with consultancy provided by Andrew Gibson Advisory and Eminence Hospitality. The concept offers a blend of natural luxury with contemporary wellness design and serene Cretan influences.

The spa will be operated in-house by the hotel, with ongoing support from Eminence Hospitality.

There are five treatment rooms made up of three single rooms, one beauty room and a spa suite with a private steamroom and sauna.

Thermal facilities include a sauna, steamroom, an ice fountain and vitality pool – all supplied by KLAFS.

The spa has partnered with skincare companies Swissline, SeaSkin Life, Aromatherapy Associates and Margaret Dabbs.

Treatment beds have been supplied by Lemi and other spa furniture is by Mavriki and Co and Kopidakis Wood Creations.

The property also has a fitness centre equipped by Technogym, a movement centre, a yoga deck and four swimming pools with panoramic sea views.

Spa treatments

Swissline’s signature therapies for spa guests at the resort include:

Swiss oxygen facial – a treatment that uses protocols to stimulate, strengthen and detoxify the skin by increasing oxygenation and enhancing nutrient absorption.

Swiss eye specialist – a therapy to hydrate and restore the eye area by targeting signs of fatigue and ageing, using a 92 per cent pure collagen film.

Collagen face sculpting – a combination of toning techniques and the use of the brand’s pure collagen films for visibly lifted, firmer skin.

Hydra soothing treatment - a facial that uses Swissline’s Hydra Oxygen Ampoules to rehydrate the skin and counteract cellular fatigue.

Swissline treatment pricing ranges from €160-210 (US$185-243, £136-179) depending on the protocol and duration.

Kyriaki Sentouka, spa and wellness manager at Anoseas said: “Swissline’s unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation beautifully aligns with our values. The brand's intelligently formulated products deliver exceptional results, perfectly complementing the rejuvenating and luxurious experiences we proudly offer at the newly opened Anoseas Spa.

"This collaboration marks a significant milestone for JW Marriott Crete Resort and Spa," said Sentouka.
