Kempinski Riga to open with Resense-managed spa
POSTED 27 Sep 2017 . BY Tom Walker
The spa houses six treatment rooms and a large vitality pool
Luxury hotel operator Kempinski is set to open its second property in the Baltic states next month, with the launch of a 141-bedroom spa hotel in Latvia’s capital city Riga.

The Grand Hotel Kempinski Riga will join Kempinski Hotel Cathedral Square in Vilnius, Lithuania, in its fledgling Baltic portfolio as the operator looks to benefit from the economic boom in the region.

Designed by London-based Alex Kravetz Design, the new property will look to attract both leisure and business travellers and features a 1,300sq m (14,000sq ft) Kempinski The Spa, operated by global spa management company Resense.

The spa will have six treatment rooms – including four single, one double and one VIP suite.

There will also be a vitality pool, a heat bathing area with a sauna, bio sauna, aroma steamroom, rasul mud room, cold plunge pool, experience showers, ice fountain and heated bench with footbaths.

The spa’s USP will be the ‘pirts treatment suite’, modelled on the traditional Nordic sauna tradition, which involves bathers being swatted with birch branches in order to encourage circulation.

Local Latvian muds – famous for their healing properties – will be used in the rasul and the spa has been fitted with bespoke furniture from German supplier Gharieni.

Other facilities include a relaxation beauty lounge with nail bar and a fitness suite fitted with Life Fitness equipment.

The Spa will be open daily to both hotel guests and day visitors.

"We’re excited to welcome the first five-star luxury hotel in Latvia to our portfolio," said Bernold Schröder, Kempinski’s chief operating officer for Europe.

Founded in 1897, Kempinski Hotels is one of Europe’s oldest luxury hotel groups and currently manages a portfolio of 76 five-star hotels and residences in 31 countries.
PROJECT PROFILE:

kempinski riga
The former Riga Hotel, set in the heart of the city, will be the first hotel in Latvia for Kempinski, and is set to open in early 2017.
