A luxury private island eco-resort in Myanmar has announced plans for a new Ayurvedic Jungle Spa, scheduled for completion in 2021.

The 2,000sq ft open-air spa at Wa Ale resort will be the next stage in the island’s evolution, as the vision of founders Chris and Farina Kingsley continues to grow.

Built with the core Ayurvedic principles in mind, the two open-air treatment rooms will overlook the Andaman Sea and be surrounded by rich jungle habitat.

On arrival to the island, guests will be invited for an in-depth consultation with a resident Ayurvedic doctor to assess their current mental, emotional and physical state before being given a bespoke treatment plan, which can also incorporate diet advice.

The spa will offer a range of treatment options, including anti-stress Abhyanga massages, reflexology and spine care.

The spa's single and double treatment room will be in keeping with the general aesthetic of the luxury eco-resort, where earthy reclaimed wooden interiors are blended with untouched natural paradise.

Wa Ale is designed to remain in harmony with nature, hence the decision to choose an open-air structure for the spa to fully immerse guests among the lush jungle and ocean scenery.

This commitment to nature will also see the owners ensure no tree on the island will be felled or disrupted during the update.

“Ayurveda is about respecting and harnessing the power of nature and we felt the principles of this ancient holistic healing system aligned perfectly with Wa Ale’s ethos,” said Chris Kingsley, speaking to Spa Business.

“The resort’s natural beauty and remoteness have always made it a place for rejuvenation and disconnect, however, our new spa will allow guests to take their wellness experience with us to the next level.”

The Ayurvedic Jungle Spa joins Wa Ale’s new Honeymoon Beach, a previously untouched 4km stretch of pristine coastline on the 5,000-acre island, which will be home to a four-bedroom Beach House and three Beach Bungalows.

Wa Ale’s existing island retreat sits in a protected cove in the Mergui Archipelago off Myanmar's south-west coast, with luxury tented and treetop villas overlooking a pristine beach and majestic rock formations.

Food at Wa Ale is prepared using produce grown on the island’s own organic farm, as well as fresh fish from the Mariculture Farm meaning guests have the opportunity for a full lifestyle reset coupling restorative spa treatments with nourishing, sustainably sourced farm to plate food.
