Service Station male spa and barbershop to roll out
POSTED 11 Dec 2006 . BY
The Service Station, a Los Angeles–based male spa and barbershop, is to be rolled out to 10 new sites in southern California, US, within the next five years.

Described by its owners as “part rock’n’roll, part Zen”, the Cotner Avenue-based Service Station on Cotner Avenue in LA opened in December 2005 as a place where the urban male ”could receive great grooming services and personal attention”.

Founded by marketing executive Scott Holmes, based upon a full-service gas station his grandfather used to own, Service Station has been designed by Fred Sutherland of Fred 62 to resemble a garage, complete with a Le Mans pit stop, hoses producing jets of air to spray hair clippings away and ‘pit-crew’ for staff.

The salon boasts seven barber/styling chairs alongside five treatment rooms, a warehouse-styled communal area, a waiting area, a locker room with showers and five handcare chairs.

Treatments will include a full barber service plus massages, facials and hand and foot care.

Holmes said: “We wanted to create an environment where men feel comfortable taking good care of themselves.

“Service Station is a place where Steve McQueen would feel at home getting a deep tissue massage after a haircut. I want our clients to walk away feeling great about their experience.” Details: www.servicestation.net
