US$35m six-month upgrade project for Las Vegas' Red Rock Resort
POSTED 15 Apr 2014 . BY Helen Andrews

Red Rock Resort – owned by gaming company Station Casinos in the Las Vegas suburb of Summerlin, Nevada – is planning to spend US$35m (€25m, £20.9m) on a six-month expansion and upgrade project.

The resort – originally built at a cost of US$925m (€670.5m, £553m) – will undergo its largest, costliest renovation since it opened and its completion date is planned to coincide with the October launch of a neighbouring 1.6 million sq ft (148,644sq m) under-construction shopping centre.

The Red Rock project will focus on the renovation of the T-bones Chophouse, upgrades to 26 of the property’s suites and the 800-bedroom hotel’s 25,000sq ft spa will be remodelled.

Currently the spa comprises 23 treatment rooms including a special VIP suite with an oversized bathtub and two treatment tables for couples treatments.

Outdoor treatment decks adjoin a lounging deck, lap pool, cabanas and a yoga garden. Separate spa lounges for men and women are included, as well as steamrooms, saunas and cool plunges.

Station Casinos are not releasing the details of the remodelling at this stage.

Renovations to Red Rock will help connect the resort to the Shops at Summerlin Mall to benefit from the retail site’s expected 2,000 employees and increased customer traffic.

Developers of the shopping facility – Howard Hughes, a spin-off of the struggling General Growth Properties – have restarted construction after progress halted as a result of the recession in 2008.

“The centre expects to attract 25,000 to 35,000 customers daily,” said Kevin Orrok, vice president of Howard Hughes.

Considered by Station Casinos to be its flagship hotel, Red Rock, which opened in April 2006 also plans to build a row of restaurants with increased access to its parking garage.
