Alpamare readies its first UK waterpark for opening
POSTED 05 May 2016 . BY Tom Anstey
The park forms part of a wider redevelopment of the area being undertaken by developer Benchmark Properties
A £14m (US35m, €30.3m) waterpark in Scarborough, UK, is on-course to open later this year.

Approved by the local council in May 2014, North Bay Water Park, operated by Alpamare UK, will feature four rides, offering an alpine theme with its lazy river, two-person tubes, racing mats and body slide.

Additionally, the waterpark will host a 480sq m (5,200sq ft) indoor wave pool, 200sq m (2,150sq ft) outdoor family pool, 170sq m (1,829sq ft) outdoor infinity pool, restaurant, terrace and landscaped garden with luxury day cottages. A luxury spa will also feature steambaths, a sauna and treatment facilities.

Swiss-based Alpamare expects to attract up to half-a-million visitors annually to the new waterpark. Alpamare currently operates four attractions in Europe, with the Scarborough development similar in style to one in Ticino, Switzerland.

Located in Scarborough’s North Bay, known as The Sands, the park forms part of a wider redevelopment of the area being undertaken by developer Benchmark Properties. The council has provided a loan facility worth £9m (US$15.3m, €11m) to fund the development.

“Construction is continuing at a pace on site and it is going to be a privilege to open the doors to our very first customers in July,” said newly appointed head of operations, Vicki Jones.

"My ambition is to work with the rest of the team to create one of the UK’s best attractions right here on the Yorkshire coast.”
