Wheways to open second Alanya Spa
POSTED 16 May 2003 . BY
The second Alanya Spa, the brand created by husband and wife team, Allan and Tanya Wheway, will open in September this year, at a beachfront location between Rabat and Casablanca, in Morocco.

Wheway Lifestyle International (WLI) - the spa consultancy set up by the former Sanctuary and Champneys owners - has won a five-year contract to manage the 1,500sq m facility owned by Starwood Hotel Properties.

It will specialise in thalassotherapy treatments.

The first Alanya Spa opened this month on Spain's Valencian coast. The Wheways have a 10-year contract to manage the facility, which is part of the Denia Marriott La Sella Golf Resort and Spa. The 1,200sq m spa has 12 therapy rooms, with hydrotherapy, a dry float, a floatation tank and a Vichy shower.

There's a grooming studio offering haircare, manicures and pedicures; an indoor hydrotherapy pool with experience showers; a thermal bathing suite with a caldarium, sanarium, crystal thermarium and a rasul chamber. Other facilities include a gym equipped by Technogym, a mind-body studio, a spa boutique, an aromatic garden with a therapy area and a whirlpool.

The resort also has 184 guest rooms, a 27-hole golf course, outdoor leisure pools, tennis courts, two restaurants, a ballroom, a jazz and blues bar, and a casino. A beach club will be completed this summer. The spa will cater for resort guests and owners of 166 Marriot Vacation Club apartments, planned over the next couple of years. A limited membership will be offered to local residents and golf club members.

The company is also doing feasibility work on two projects in Malaysia and working on two projects for the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) in the UK: refurbishing and expanding a traditional Turkish baths facility in its Pall Mall club and adding spa facilities to a club in Surrey. Details: +44 (0)1494 758058
