LTS making light work of acne treatment
15 Jul 2008 . BY
 /
As one of the few non-invasive tools available which can reverse the appearance of ageing, wrinkles and mottled skin, light therapy - says Light Therapy Systems (LTS) - is fast becoming an important revenue stream for spas of all types, tanning and beauty salons, fitness facilities, hotels and resorts.

The system works on the principle of the heat produced by PDT (Photo Dynamic Technology) raising the activity of the cells of the skin and accelerating their metabolism, with red light, blue light or a mix of both being used for specific treatments.

To meet the demand for these so-called 'lunch break' treatments, LTS offers a line of professional grade phototherapy equipment for use in a variety of applications for the health, beauty, and medical industries.

One of these is Skin-Refining Acne Treatment, created to address the complexion problems which appear in the form of pimples - usually on the face but sometimes elsewhere on the upper body - and acne, which is just a skin problem and not one of general health.

Powerful light emitting diodes (LEDs) generate narrow band violet light measuring between 405nm and 420nm and an array of these LEDs is designed to treat the area of skin most frequently affected by acne bacteria: the face.

Studies have shown that the most effective wavelength of light for treating acne varies slightly with skin type and to provide the optimum phototherapy treatment the LTS system is designed to utilise multiple LED wavelengths within the same light panel

Incorporating a comfortable white cosmetology chair, the Anti-acne machine measures 32in W X 70in L X 62in H (with the chair adjusted normally), requires a standard wall outlet for power and has a recommended room size of 4.5ft X 6.5ft.

The recommended session time is 20 minutes, with one session per week for six weeks and thereafter once a month dependent on the severity of the condition.
