Every guest has different needs, and I’ve learned that the best results come from creating space for people to tune in to themselves – especially in the context of modern life and travel
– Acupuncturist and wellness specialist Ross J Barr
Hospitality company Lore Group has partnered with acupuncturist Ross J Barr, stocking his herbal wellness patches in guestroom minibars and at spas in its portfolio of global hotels.

As part of Lore’s strategy to deliver wellness experiences grounded in science, Barr’s natural patches have been formulated based on his approach to blending Eastern medicine with modern living.

The patches are designed to soothe the physical and emotional stresses of travel and the collection includes specific variations called Calm, Sleep, Healing, Breathe and Period. They can be used by people aged upwards from 12.

Barr’s knowledge of in-clinic acupuncture and Five Element Therapy will now be available to guests in a more on-the-go method in minibars. Staff at spas around the world will also be trained by Barr on how to use the patches during existing wellness protocols.

A spokesperson for the brand told Spa Business, “They work on three levels: first, there’s the olfactory nature of the ingredients – the herbs chosen have a direct effect on the senses. Next, the oils themselves have healing properties. Then there’s the acupuncture point specifically that the patches invigorate.

“They’re not like nicotine patches, which deliver ingredients into the skin through the patch; it’s much more about placing them in a specific area,” the spokesperson continued. “The idea with the Sleep patches, for example, is that they are part of your bedtime preparation. It’s lovely to apply one to each temple half an hour before bed as part of a winding-down ritual, then leave them on until morning.”

Wellness destinations using the patches to enhance treatments include The Beauty House at Pulitzer Amsterdam, Netherlands, as well as Agua London Spa at Sea Containers in the UK.

Barr told Spa Business, “My work is rooted in tailoring wellness to the individual. Every guest has different needs, and I’ve learned that the best results come from creating space for people to tune in to themselves – especially in the context of modern life and travel.

“Lore’s teams have also embraced the practice,” added Barr. “I’ve spent time training them not just in the practical use of the patches, but in understanding how wellness starts with how we care for ourselves. That, in turn, elevates how we care for others.”

Jacqueline Kneebone, head of sustainability and wellness for Lore Group, said “Each patch offers a moment of intentional care, which is exactly what people crave while travelling. Whether it’s better sleep, clarity, calm or simply feeling more grounded – these are small but meaningful ways to support guests where they are.”
