The Surrenne philosophy embraces a new era of total rejuvenation, crafted in harmony with partners from the cutting-edge of modern wellness
– Inge Theron
A major new wellness retreat called Surrenne is coming to Knightsbridge, London, this April, according to an announcement from Claridge's owner The Maybourne Hotel Group.

Spanning almost 2,000sq m, Surrenne will form part of the Qatari-based hotel owner and operator's upcoming all-suite hotel, The Emory – opening on 4 April.

Blending spa, beauty, recovery and fitness amenities, the club will be spread across four floors and has been designed by award-winning architect and designer Remi Tessier.

The first floor will include a 22-metre swimming pool with an aquatic sound system to allow in-water meditation, a spa café, an aromatherapy sauna, a steamroom and a snow shower.

A state-of-the-art gym, kitted out by Technogym, Woodway, Hydrow and Peloton, will sit on the second floor and Maybourne has promised to open its “little black book” to secure the best visiting PTs.

Alongside the gym will be a multi-functional studio for yoga and Pilates – limited to six people at any one time – and set against the backdrop of a Japanese Garden.

There will also be a recovery studio, with a soft-cushioned floor and Hyperice and Hypevolt equipment.

Meanwhile, a longevity-focused spa will be located on the third floor and feature seven treatment rooms, two Hamman treatment suites, a couples’ retreat, an ashiatsu massage room and a retail area, as well as an infrared sauna and a relaxation area with a hyperbaric chamber and cold plunge.

Programming highlights will include a 90-minute, four-hand ceremony, as well as an ashiatsu massage which is conducted using the feet.

Surrenne’s wellness menu will also offer an array of indoor and outdoor fitness classes as well as wild swimming, given its location opposite Hyde Park.

The fourth and final floor will be dedicated to classes by fitness pioneer, Tracy Anderson, who has a celebrity following for her sculpting method.

Use of the facilities will be free for guests of The Emory and Maybourne's other nearby property, The Berkeley, while other individuals can apply to join as members.

The vision
Inge Theron, founder of spa consultancy Itanda and Maybourne’s creative director of spa and wellness design, has been in charge of pulling together the concept, which blends modern science with a holistic approach to health.

“The Surrenne philosophy embraces a new era of total rejuvenation, crafted in harmony with partners from the cutting-edge of modern wellness,” she says.

“Every treatment, product and ritual is a bespoke symphony of potent plants and pioneering technologies to create truly transcendental states of being.”

Wellness technology
Maybourne has partnered with Virtusan, to create the top-end health offering, benefiting from the wellness tech specialist's scientific advisory board which includes mindfulness and self-compassion expert and author, Dr Shauna Shapiro; professor of neurobiology and podcaster, Dr Andrew Huberman and Harvard professor of genetics, Dr David Sinclair.

Other specialists on the team include nutritionist and functional medicine practitioner, Rosemary Ferguson and skincare guru, Dr Lara Devgan.

Membership
Membership will be available for £10,000 a year per person (US$12,662, €11,752), or £14,000 per couple residing in the same household (US$17,727, €16,453), plus a £5,000 joining fee (US$6,331, €5,876). For this, members will get access to all of the facilities, 12 Tracy Anderson classes a year; two hyperbaric sessions and two cold water therapies.

They will also benefit from a comprehensive consultation with the Surrenne physician, which will include testing protocols for cardiovascular health, hormone balance, sleep and stress; metabolism and blood sugar; recovery and nutrition; cognition and endurance; fitness and hormonal balance and methylation testing. The full fitness assessment will be followed up by three further sessions.

Four body treatments or facials a year are included in the membership, with preferential rates on further spa treatments.

Membership is on an application basis and involves filling in an online form declaring nationality, occupation and industry and uploading a photograph.

The Maybourne Hotel Group is known for its prestigious hotels: Claridge's, The Connaught and The Berkeley in London, as well as The Maybourne Beverly Hills and The Maybourne Riviera.

London has recently gained several new hotels with substantial wellness offerings, including Accor's high-end Raffles at the Old War Office late in 2023, with its Guerlain Spa, as well as The Peninsula London’s new subterranean wellness retreat.

Six Senses, Rosewood and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group are also set to open new properties in London over the next two years.
