Virgin Active, one of the world's five largest health and fitness operators, will open four new Life Centres over the next six months. Three Life Centres are scheduled to open in London in Acton, Wandsworth and Islington, plus one in Bristol, as part of a £30m expansion programme in the UK. The company will announce further club openings on the completion of legal formalities. Expansion is expected to extend into Europe at the end of 2002. Launched two years ago, Virgin Active currently has more than 310,000 members which is predicted to grow to 470,000 by 2002. A recent refinancing deal worth £100m has allowed the company to compete its rollout plans in the UK and provides a platform for expansion in Europe. Virgin Active's Life Centre brand offers members over 200 pieces of user-friendly fitness equipment, a minimum of two studios for group exercise, swimming pools and spa, sauna and steam rooms. Kidsville is a fully supervised children's play area catering for children aged three months to 16-years-old. The next Life Centre opens in April 2002.
