Tschuggen to launch two new spas in Switzerland
POSTED 12 Sep 2005 . BY
The Tschuggen Group – which operates four luxury hotels in Switzerland – has announced plans for two new spas, the first of which will be a £15m (US$27.6m, 22.2m euro) facility due to open in December 2006.

The 4,000sq m (43,000sq ft) Botta Berg Oase will be part of the Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Arosa.

The spa complex – which will be spread over four floors and linked to the hotel by a glass bridge – will include 11 treatment rooms, two swimming pools, indoor and outdoor saunas, a hammam, a meditation room, a fitness centre and a junior spa suite.

It will feature a Kniepp Path – where guests will walk over natural stones through a knee-deep stream of water – and the Arosa Mountain Grotto, which will offer an experience of the four seasons.

The group intends to use local products such as Arosa mud and alpine herbs, but has not yet chosen the spa’s suppliers.

Light trees will be constructed on the roof of the spa in order to reflect natural light throughout the building (pictured above). The light will be controlled internally and intertwined with colour to create different ambiances.

The second spa – the Botta See Oase – is to launch in December 2007. The 2,500sq m (27,000sq ft) facility – which will offer 10 treatment rooms – will be connected via an underground passage to the Hotel Eden Roc in Ascona and add to the hotel’s existing 1,500sq m (16,150sq ft) spa.

Both projects will be designed by Mario Botta, architect for the Museum of Modern Art in San Fransisco, USA. Details: www.tschuggen.ch
