Health club operator Fitness Express has opened its fourth UK spa.

Facilities at the new £2m Atlantic Health and Spa, at Houghton Hall near Sudbury, Suffolk, include three treatment rooms and a relaxation room, a swimming pool, spa pool, sauna and steam room.

The spa also boasts a 1,000sq ft gym equipped with a 18 pieces of Precor resistance and cv equipment, an aerobics class, a free weights area and tennis court.

The 6,000sq ft spa will use Babor products in its treatments and will be operated by Fitness Express for the owners of Houghton Hall, Rob Wise and Leslie Berger.

Dave Courteen, managing director of Fitness Express, said: “The Atlantic Health site is the fourth site we have opened in the last six months.

“Our decision to extend the Fitness Express market offering to spas, was seen as the next logical step to help to build on the offerings of many of our already successful clubs.

“The spa industry is becoming an incredibly competitive yet profitable area of business, but you have to get it right. Our philosophy is based on offering a dramatically different type of customer-led experience where the customer is in control and can dictate what they want and how they want it.”

Future expansion plans for the company’s spa brand include prospective locations at three more East of England sites, including the Park Farm Hotel in Hethersett, Norfolk, Quy Mill in Cambridgeshire and Liscombe Park in Leighton Buzzard.
